A little advice from today's PR guest speaker Rachel Short at our AWC meeting on "Life After College". Find her on Twitter @raeshort.
"It feels like no one prepares you for this transition. You graduate, and then it's like, 'Wow. I'm not ready to never be a student again.'
But when you begin looking for your job, don't be afraid to not know. Our culture says we have to know everything before we get there. Why do you have to know what you want to do and how to do it by the time you turn 22? Why can't it be a lifelong journey?
How you deal with things in your personal life for sure affects how you resolve things in real life. DO NOT BE INTIMIDATED. In entry-level jobs, people seem to think they can't ask for things. You won't know anything until you've actually tried it. Find people who advocate you; not only whose careers you want to model your career after, but your life as well."
