The story picks up after she has already parted ways with the boy in Tekk, the spirit cat having tagged along since she crossed through the abandoned amusement park in the District. 

Wanderers all find their way differently to Runea. The deeper she wanders into the tropical continent, the more spirits she realizes she is being accompanied by.
